MANILA, Philippines—The police on Monday filed multiple charges against the man who went on a stabbing spree on Black Saturday in Caloocan City, killing an employee of GMA 7’s AM radio station and injuring two more people.
Caloocan police chief Senior Supt. Jude Santos told the Inquirer that they charged 25-year-old Cezar (not Cesar as earlier reported) Baguio with murder, frustrated murder and attempted murder at the city prosecutor’s office.
Baguio went amuck following a drinking spree at around 8 p.m. on Saturday in an alley in Dagat-dagatan, Caloocan City.
He armed himself with two knives and started stabbing people, killing Edwin Ramos, 47, a program coordinator of dzBB.
Two more people identified as Emilita Rios, 54; and Marvin Sauza, 37; were wounded after Baguio also went after them. Both were taken to Tondo General Hospital for treatment.
The police said Rios has since been released although Sauza remains confined due to the seriousness of his injuries.
Ramos, a resident of Malabon City, was just visiting his girlfriend in the area when he was killed.
On Monday, National Capital Region Police Office chief Director Nicanor Bartolome ordered the police to step up the search for Baguio who immediately escaped. Two tracker teams have already been sent out to go after him.
Although the investigation of the case remains at the local level, Chief Supt. Edgardo Laddao, Northern Police District head, told the Inquirer that he had also assigned a police team to help out the Caloocan police in tracking down Baguio.
