Speeding bus ends wrong side up in Quezon City; 17 injured

Around 17 passengers were injured after the driver of a speeding bus lost control of the vehicle on Elliptical Road at 11 p.m. on Sunday.

The injured included the driver of the Cemtrans bus with license plate TYK 508. The accident took place right in front of Quezon City Hall.

Traffic investigator Senior Police Officer 4 Henry Se identified the bus driver as Miguelito Balingit, 42, a resident of Bulacan province.

Also injured were bus passengers Warren Manalastas, 28; Livy Soberano, 45; Jerome Reyes, 23; Agapito de la Cruz, 41; Arnold Alamo, 43; Cris Joy Vicentino, 22; Maylene Ilagan, 35; Fernando Verano, 46; Jonathan Delasan, 21; Abundio Colesa, 45; Valentin Bantiles, 36; Ronald Masalilit, 28; Ariel Lipata, 32; Rico Atienza, 35; Joven Bujaue, 41; and Erving Eva, 30.

Se said Balingit was placed under the custody of the Quezon City police in Camp Karingal as he faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple injuries.

He added that it was likely that the bus was traveling at high speed because right after it turned right on Elliptical Road from East Avenue, the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The passenger bus ended up lying on its left side just in front of Quezon City Hall.

Se said it was fortunate that there were no other vehicles in the area at the time the accident happened.
