6-year-old girl needs chemotherapy to treat brain tumor

Charmen

If it were up to her, Cecil Ramos would rather not have her 6-year-old daughter Charmen undergo chemotherapy to get rid of a brain tumor.

“I’ve heard a lot about patients not surviving after chemotherapy but if it is the only way to prevent other tumors from growing, we’re giving it a try,” Ramos, who works as a housemaid, said.

Her daughter has already gone through two operations to remove tumors in her brain but these were not enough to stop new ones from appearing.

Another reason for Ramos’ reluctance is the prohibitive cost of the treatment at Philippine General Hospital. Each chemotherapy session costs P60,000, an amount she and her husband, a construction worker, cannot raise on their own. Charmen would need at least 12 sessions.

Cecil Ramos can be reached at 0916-1109673. Donations can be deposited in her BPI Family Savings Bank account (account number 6676243443).
