Speeding bus leaves 18 people hurt in Quezon City

MANILA, Philippines—At least 18 people were injured when a passenger bus that was allegedly over speeding fell on its side in Quezon City late Sunday, a city traffic investigator said.

In a report, Senior Police Officer 4 Henry Se of QC Traffic-Sector 3, said the accident transpired along Eliptical Road in Quezon City around 11 p.m., involving a CemTrans Inc. bus with license plate TYK 508.

Initial investigation revealed that the bus, driven by Miguelito Balingit, was allegedly over speeding, causing it to fall on its side in front of the Quezon City hall.

As a result, 18 people were injured while Balingit was unharmed. They were rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center.

A radio report quoted passengers as saying that the bus was swerving while it was allegedly running 70 to 80 kilometers per hour.

It also said the driver was ignoring traffic lights. Balingit denied the allegations.

The driver has been placed under police custody.
