Academic freedom

Whoever released the annulment record of a mayoralty bet is irresponsible and highly insensitive.  For one the records of the annulment cases are considered confidential thus should not be released to the public until finally decided by the Supreme Court. Secondly I am more concerned with how it would affect the children of the mayoralty bet. The children may not be speaking but I am pretty sure they are affected by the press release of the findings of the psychiatrist of their father. Thirdly the other party has candidates who are not morally upright. So it is not fair to release to the public confidential records especially that the findings of the psychiatrist in the case do not exactly mean that the person is insane or mentally challenged.

I am happy with the recent development of the Ducayag case who died in the hands of the security officer in one of the malls in the city and whose death was identified by the PNP medico-legal officer as caused by natural death. But upon the requests of the relatives the body of Ducayag was re-autopsied this time by the NBI medico-legal officer and surprisingly the NBI medico-legal officer D. Cam discovered that Ducayag died because of traumatic neck injuries. But I would humbly suggest that the Ducayag family get a third party opinion to expertly determine the cause of the death. Dr. Racquel Fortun a forensic pathologist of PGH or Dr. Cecile Lim may be asked to help to determine the cause of death. Dr. Sator should indeed be investigated because there were instances were his findings bungled the case of the prosecution. I think the relatives of Ducayag should pursue the cases they filed against Dr. Sator and should go further in holding responsible the death of Ducayag.

Let me make some clarifications about my involvement or non-involvement of the survey conducted by the University of San Carlos Department of Political Science. I am still a member of the faculty of the department but I was not involved in the survey activity of the department basically because I do not want it to be tainted as biased because I happen to be a relative of two candidates in the city. Was the survey commissioned by a party or by politician? I do not have any answer to that because I was not involved in the activity and do not know the policy of the department about it. Why did I not get myself involve in the activity so that I could do something about the survey? Sorry but I was not trained and educated by the university and by the department to do that and my family will not allow that also. It was basically an exercise of academic freedom on the part of the department and the university. In a related development I would like to take exception to what the BOPK political ad in the newspaper where they used without the permission of the university and the department and padded the result of the survey that I believe was a product of intellectual  dishonesty and misleading. I could not understand why they have to do the padding of the result of the survey.

I think some residents and some politician should allow the clearing efforts of the city government in barangay Ermita that was hit by fire in order to protect the residents fro the falling debris. Re-blocking is also very important so that the fire trucks will not enter the residents without houses blocking some parts of the road for the fire truck to enter or to have access to the area especially during a fire. The city government is doing right in pursuing a clearing operation and a re-blocking for it is for the benefit and interests of the people in Ermita.
