MANILA, Philippines—To provide better access for tourists, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is building a road leading to the popular Kapurpurawan white rock formation in Burgos, Ilocos Sur.
Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson said the government was paving a 3.466-kilometer access road to the tourist destination that is expected to be finished before the end of the year.
“Listed as one of the projects under the Convergence Program for Enhancing Tourism Access of the DPWH and Department of Tourism, the construction of Kapurpurawan Road will make adventures to the white creamy colored limestone structures… a lot more fun,” said Singson in a statement.
“Kapurpurawan actually comes from the Ilocano word ‘puraw’ which means white,” he added.
Singson said the site could be reached after an hour and a few minutes’ travel north of Laoag City “and offers a breathtaking view of the different rock shapes that can completely amaze tourists who visit the place.”
Integrated into the P70-million project are the construction of a line canal, installation of box and pipe culverts, slope protection works, provision for coconet or the installation of coco fiber erosion control nets, and safety devices such as guardrails and warning and informative signs.
