A day care center was finally turned over recently to barangay Libjo in Dauin town, Negros Oriental by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the local government of Dauin after two months of construction.
The day care center was constructed after identifying the needs of the barangay.
The project was implemented using the community-driven development approach, which employs skilled and non-skilled workers in the community.
DSWD Regional Director Mercedita Jabagat congratulated the volunteers for having completed the small-scale project.
“The volunteers will continue their services by assisting the day care workers in preparing snacks and food for the children under the supplementary feeding program. Part of their function is to conduct quarterly inventory on the center’s materials like toys, books, feeding utensils and outdoor facilities,” she said during the blessing of the facility.
The project worth P790,300 sits on a 48-sq.m. lot.
The newly-built facility equipped with a mini kitchen, storage room, concrete pathway and a playground has a total pre-school enrollment of 29. The old and dilapidated day dare center could only accommodate less than 15 children.
The local government of Dauin has hired a day care teacher as their counterpart of the project.
“The project preparation involved the community members in identifying the situation of their barangay, prioritizing urgent needs and proposing solutions,” said Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive Integrated Delivery of Social Service (Kalahi-CIDSS) Dauin area coordinator Joel Erediano.
Another day care center is being constructed in barangay New Namangka, Mabinay, Negros Oriental and is expected to be finished in the coming weeks.
Fifty-five more community projects for Negros Oriental will be completed in the next coming months.
