A man ended up dead after he picked a fight with his brother-in-law who
had teased him about his receding hairline on Wednesday evening.
Lito Obidos, 46, a resident of Barangay West Fairview in Quezon City, died of the injuries he sustained after he figured in a brawl with Petronilo Espineda.
Espineda, the victim’s brother-in-law, went into hiding afterward, the police said.
Case investigator SPO1 Randy Bantillo of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said that the fight between the two men broke out at around 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
Earlier, Espineda, who was drunk, came home and upon seeing Obidos, called him “panot” (bald).
Witnesses said that after he teased Obidos, Espineda went further and challenged his brother-in-law to a fight.
They added that Obidos, who was angered by Espineda’s teasing, grabbed a bolo and tried to hack him.
A relative tried to break up the fight but Obidos went after him instead and hacked him. Obidos then tried to run away but Espineda chased him.
Witnesses said that Espineda pummeled the victim on the head when he finally caught up with him.
The victim also sustained cuts and bruises in other parts of the body but it was the head injuries he suffered that turned out to be fatal.
