A construction worker landed behind bars after allegedly robbing a female bank teller in broad daylight in Quezon City.
Ernesto dela Peña, 35, was charged Friday, a day after he was arrested by a police team who saw the knife-wielding suspect take the cell phone of Aileen Manongsong, a Banco de Oro employee and resident of Caloocan City.
PO2 Romeo Nino II said Dela Pena approached his target as she was walking along Edsa near Kamuning Road around 8 a.m. Manongsong said she was using her cell phone when she felt something sharp poking her back. She turned to see Dela Peña pointing his fan knife (balisong) at her and warning her not make a scene. But the bank teller held her bag even more tightly. Dela Peña then grabbed her Samsung Galaxy S worth P12,000 and ran away.
SPO1 Kristo Romualdo and PO2 Dandy Pascacio saw the victim crying for help and spotted the suspect running along Edsa. They caught up with Dela Peña in front of the JAC Liner bus terminal. Julie M. Aurelio
