The case filed by a group calling itself Concerned City Hall Employees against Calapan City Mayor Paulino Salvador Leachon at the Office of the Ombudsman is just part of black propaganda, the mayor said in a statement.
Leachon pointed to his political rival, Oriental Mindoro Rep. Rodolfo Valencia, as the one orchestrating the complaint.
“They are just trying to build a case against me because of this election,” said Leachon’s statement. “It is a baseless complaint.”
The mayor said the Commission on Audit (COA) had cleared him of irregularity in the purchase of CCTVs and TV sets by the city government.
“All papers relative to the purchases were submitted to the COA before disbursements were made,” said the mayor’s statement.
The ruling Liberal Party has endorsed Leachon as its official candidate for congressman of Oriental Mindoro against Valencia’s son, Nico.
Leachon said the complaint is a “concoction and invention” of the Valencia camp.
