2 injured in C-5 pileup caused by dump truck with bad brakes

MANILA, Philippines — Two people were injured when a dump truck loaded with asphalt lost its brakes and caused a nine-vehicle pileup on Circumferential Road 5 or C5 Road in Makati City on Thursday afternoon.

According to a report from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s Metrobase, the accident happened around 1:30 p.m. on the southbound side of the elevated U-turn slot near the C5-Kalayaan intersection and snarled traffic on the thoroughfare all the way to Katipunan Avenue.

An initial report said the vehicles involved in the accident, apart from the dump truck, were a motorcycle, a Revo, a Hyundai car, a passenger jeepney, a van, and three other trucks

“Nagkadamay-damay na,” an MMDA radio operator said of the incident.

The driver of the dump truck, identified as Rodolfo Gapan, 34, suffered injuries and was taken to the Rizal Medical Center for treatment. The authorities had yet to identify the other person injured. With Jamie Elona, INQUIRER.net
