NAGA CITY, Philippines — The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 5.1 magnitude earthquake located at 90 kilometers northeast of Jomalig, Quezon at 1:37 p.m. Wednesday.
In its website, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) also recorded the quake at 1:38 p.m. and located it at 93 kilometers north-northeast of Vinzons town in Camarines Norte with a 5.3 magnitude.
Phivolcs said the earthquake was felt at Intensity 3 in Barangay (village) Manlayo, Guinayangan, Quezon and at Intensity 2 in Naga City and Jose Panganiban, Camarines Norte.
Earthquakes in the 5 to 5.9 magnitude range are considered moderate. Earthquakes felt at Intensity 3 mean they’re strong enough to be felt by many people indoors while those at Intensity 2 mean the shaking is strong enough to be felt by people at rest.
Arnel Ferrer, officer of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in Camarines Norte, said there were no reports of damage in any of the nearby coastal towns.
