Man convicted over trafficking of 8 women

MANILA, Philippines – The Quezon City Regional Trial Court convicted a human trafficker for peddling eight women for sexual services.

The court meted Jerome Zamora with the penalty of life imprisonment for violating Republic Act 9208 or the Anti-Human Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003.

The QCRTC also ordered him to pay a fine of P2 million.

Zamora was arrested in an entrapment operation in June 2012 in Novaliches. Rescued were 8 women including a 14 and 17 year old.

The court said the prosecution was able to establish that one of those rescued was a minor.

“Zamora is guilty of qualified trafficking in person as provided under RA 9208. He should suffer the penalty of life imprisonment and pay a fine of P2 million,” the court said.
