Holy Mass for workers to highlight Labor Day

A CONCELEBRATED Mass for the Workers will be held today at 8:45 a.m. at the Sto. Rosario Parish Church on P. del Rosario Street, Cebu City in honor of the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker and the International Workers’ Day.

The Holy Father, Pope Francis, has repeated many times his call to serve the poor. Many of the workers are poor, deprived of human dignity.

Representatives of the Archdiocese of Cebu clergy, religious and laity will join the Archdiocesan celebration of the Labor Day.

Invited to join the celebration are: workers in Cebu; officers and staff of the Department of Labor and Employment, National Labor Relations Commission and the National Conciliation and Mediation Board; local government officials; business people and the officers and members of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mactan Island Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Cebu Business Club, and the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and all concerned groups and individuals.

The Archdiocesan celebration of the Labor Day is an expression of solidarity with the workers, who, according to Pope Benedict XVI, are the “source, the focus and the aim of all economic life.”

Msgr. Rommel Kintanar, Archdiocesan Discernment Group (ADG) convenor, quoted the words of Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma, “When all sectors in our society work together to promote human dignity and the integral development of society, we will surely reap wonderful fruits from our collective efforts.”
