Cabbie loses cash, taxi to robbers
MANILA, Philippines—A taxi driver lost not just his earnings but also his cab to two thieves who pretended to be passengers Monday night in Quezon City, the police said.
Jeyjey Tampurong, 31, a driver of the Merjun Taxi and a resident of Barangay UP Campus was robbed at gunpoint by the two assailants, who boarded his cab in front of the Shopwise supermarket in Cubao and asked to be driven to Barangay Masambong, according to case investigator PO3 Marlon Tan.
When they reached Corumi Street in Barangay Masambong at around 10:40 p.m., the armed robbers announced the heist and seized the driver’s wallet, which contained P4,800 in cash, driver’s license and ATM cards.
The thieves then ordered Tampurong to get out of the vehicle and drove away with the cab, with license plate TXX 959.
Tan said the vehicle was later found abandoned at the corner of Mauban Street and A. Bonifacio Avenue in Barangay San Jose at 11:58 p.m. that day.
