THE UNIVERSITY of the Visayas-manned Lancers and the Cebu Eastern College-powered Easternians are establishing themselves in their respective groups as they logged in two more wins in the ongoing Coca Cola PBA Youngstars Basketball Tournament 2013 Cebu Leg held over the weekend at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu basketball courts along Mango Avenue.
The Lancers made easy work of the Athletes for Christ in Excellent Service (ACES), 63-20, before registering another rout against the University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars, 66-41, for a clean 3-0 (win-loss) record in Group A.
In Group B, the Easternians cruised to an 87-35 win over Team Golden Dragons and also topped Perfect Sports Outfit/One on One, 67-48 to also go 3-0 in the tournament.
In the other games, Team Eagles and Team Warriors followed their group leaders by going 2-0. Team Eagles torched Team Jaguars, 61-36 for its second straight win while Team Warriors halted Team Panthers, 66-54 and Golden Dragons, 99-47, to also take a 2-0 slate. Team Greywolves defeated ACES, 60-31 to keep its chances for a semifinals slot alive.
The top two teams of each group qualify for the sudden death crossover semifinals and the finals.
The Cebu leg is one of 12 provincial tournaments that kicked off this summer league. The Cebu champion will face the champions from Bacolod and Iloilo for the right to represent the Visayas in the national finals slated May 19-26 in Manila. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
