THE Nelson-Solana-led Echo-Maroon logged its 2nd straight win in the Seniors Division after trouncing defending champion Hotel-Violet, 87-81, Friday nigh to snare the early lead in the CEKALCO-Mayor Mike Rama Cup 2013 basketball tournament.
Echo-Maroon trailed early on, 24-34 but rallied in the 2nd canto to grab the lead at halftime, 47-43 and 60-59 at the end of the third.
In the fourth period, Taks Moral and Randy Damulo powered Echo’s 27-21 run for the six-point win.
Moral and Donald Catong scattered 25 and 18 points, respectively for Echo-Maroon while Randy Damulo added 14. Kelvin Cinco led Hotel-Violet with 36 points.
In the other game, Charlie-Green crushed Foxtrot-Yellow, 88-77, to improve to 1-1.
High-leaping forward Estoy Panerio and pointguard Richard Gubaton led Charlie-Green with 30 and 20 points, respectively, while Erik Yee and Jing Sumalinog paced the winless Foxtrot-Yellow (0-2) with 24 and 14, respectively.
