Caloocan City accounts for most of gun ban violations in Camanava

MANILA, Philippines — The Northern Police District (NPD) has made over a hundred arrests and confiscated around 130 firearms, explosives and other weapons since Jan. 13, the start of the five-month election gun ban.

Records showed that as of April 24, the NPD and the city police units under its jurisdiction—Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela (Camanava)—have arrested 107 people, including four policemen.

Most of them were in Caloocan City, where 59 violators were apprehended. Navotas City had the second-highest number with 23; Malabon City, 20 (two of them policemen); and Valenzuela, four (including one policeman).

NPD spokesperson Superintendent Ferdinand del Rosario said he could tell off-hand that the figures had already surpassed the total number of arrests and seizures made during the last election period in 2010.

But Del Rosario said the increase could also “mean that our police force is doing better work at catching violators this time and that our campaign is bearing more fruit.”
