Controversial diaper ad still on air; Radaza to seek answers

The controversial diaper ad which used the Battle of Mactan as theme and which was ordered pulled out by the National Historical Commission is still on air.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza, who was at the forefront of the campaign against the TV commercial, yesterday expressed disbelief when told that the offensive advertisement can still be seen on television.

“I heard it’s still being shown, that’s why I have to talk to the City Attorney with regards to this,” she told reporters.

The mayor said she will also get in touch with the NHC and the Advertising Board of the Philippines to get a clarification as to why the TV commercial is still being showed on television despite getting a notice that the advertiser cease and desist from doing so.

Earlier in her speech during the ceremony marking the Battle of Mactan, the mayor lauded the Cebuanos for standing united in demanding respect for the memory of Datu Lapu-Lapu and in condemning the ad that made a mockery of the bravery of the first Filipino hero and his men.

“Nagmadaogon nasad ta. The announcement sa tigbuhat sa diaper nga ilang e pull out ang advertisement nga murag mao sab nga usa napud ni natong Kadaugan sa Mactan,” she said.

(We’re once again victorious. The announcement of the diaper maker that they will pull out their advertisement is tantamount to another victory in Mactan.)

Radaza reminded the people about Lapu-Lapu’s heroism and bravery and called on them to help in the preservation of culture and heritage.

“We must accurately promote our history and learn our lesson, let us always stand proud, that time in our history is the only time that were we as a people won and became victorious in a battle against foreign invaders,” she added.
