The Prime Asia-University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers ran through the rest of the first round of eliminations with ease and capped it off with an 85-46 rout of the Raphael’s Sports Bar-University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars in the Enervon-Cesafi Partner’s Cup yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.
The win gave the reigning champions a clean 5-0 (win-loss) record while handing the hapless Jaguars their fifth beating in as many games.
The writing was on the wall early on as the Lancers erected a 15-5 lead after the first 10 minutes of action.
Veteran guard John Abad then keyed the final blow as he scored all 11 of his points in the third and combined with Chris Perolino to outscore the Jaguars by themselves, 20-15, for a 53-33 lead heading to the last stretch.
Jasper Diaz led Raphael’s with 11 points.
In the second game, the second-running Gaisano Capital South-University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters likewise finished in a flourish as they downed the Lion Tiger-University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers, 84-76.
Kido Cabrera and Christian Tanparong were instrumental in a 13-3 breakaway in the fourth that buoyed UC to its fourth win in a row and a 4-1 mark.
Tanparong and Cabrera totaled 21 markers in the fourth that blew the wind out of USPF’s sails. Tanparong finished with 15 while Cabrera had 12.
Lion Tiger finished the round with a 1-4 record.
