3 soldiers wounded in clash with communist rebels in Mindoro
MANILA, Philippines—Three government soldiers were wounded in an encounter with members of the New People’s Army in Occidental Mindoro on Thursday afternoon, the military said.
Colonel Generoso Bolina, spokesman of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Southern Luzon Command, said on Friday that a patrol was sent out in sitio Lagnas, Batasan village in San Jose town at about 3p.m., in response to extortion complaints and harassment activities of the rebels.
The soldiers were fired upon as they approached the area.
The three wounded soldiers were identified as Privates First Class Ariel Juagpao, Merdilito Sagmayao and Aldrin Jamiro.
The soldiers were flown to V Luna General Hospital in Quezon City for treatment.
