13 escapees from Negros Occidental jail recaptured

MANILA, Philippines — All 13 inmates who bolted out of jail in Negros Occidental last week have been recaptured, police said.

“All escapees from BJMP [Bureau of Jail Management and Penology] [in] Sagay City were already accounted as of this time,” Chief Inspector Edel Jose Manzano, Sagay City chief of police, said.

Manzano identified the last escapee recaptured as Eric “CJ” Cordero, 18, whose family informed a radio commentator of his willingness to surrender.

Cordero is facing a theft case.

“Na convince s’ya ng family niya and natakot na rin sya baka kung ano mangyari sa kanya sa pagtago,” Manzano said, noting that Cordero was taken back into custody around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

The 13 inmates, mostly facing murder charges, escaped from the BJMP jail in Sagay City last Wednesday.
