NAGA CITY, Philippines—A municipal councilor seeking re-election died of cardiac arrest while in a caucus with his teammates in the town of Camaligan in Camarines Sur on Tuesday.

Gaudencio Rabina, 61, municipal councilor of Camaligan, suddenly felt dizzy and ill while attending the meeting held at the municipal hall on Tuesday afternoon, Police Officer 1 Fatima Lanuza of the Camaligan police said Thursday.

Lanuza said Rabina was taken to the Saint John Hospital in Naga City where he was pronounced dead by physicians at 10:27 p.m. on the same day.

Doctors reported that Rabina died of cardiac arrest, probably brought on by heart disease, aggravated by the heat, exhaustion and fatigue from attending many events related to his campaign, Lanuza said.
