P50K lost in City Hall

An administrative aide of the Lapu-Lapu City’s Treasurer’s office sought police assistance after cash and check worth P56,000 she kept inside her desk drawer were allegedly stolen Tuesday afternoon.

Christie Fiel reported the incident to the Theft and Robbery Section (TRS) of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office.

She told police that she went upstairs to submit a report of the collection and deposits at 2:45 p.m.

When she returned a few minutes later, she opened the drawer only to find the cash and check were missing.

The cash amounting to P20,348.00 and the check worth P36,649.33 were placed inside a cash box.

Fiel said the amount consisted of last week’s payments for business permits and police clearance.

Teresita Canete, Fiel’s co-worker said she noticed a man go near her desk and thought he was Fiel’s friend.

She said she never took a good look at him because she was busy with her work.

An employee of the Material Recovery Facility also noticed a man standing right at Fiel’s table.

There was no security camera installed inside the building.

Fiel believed that the suspect might just be a Lapu-Lapu City Hall employee who knew where the cash collection was hidden.

SPO2 Ernesto Francisco of the TRS said a security camera should be installed to monitor security. Correspondent Norman V. Mendoza
