Compostela Valley cops chase suspected NPA over precinct hit

MANILA, Philippines–A hot pursuit operation was launched against suspected New People’s Army members allegedly responsible for attacking a police station in Compostela Valley late Tuesday, police said Wednesday.

Senior Superintendent Camilo Cascolan, provincial police director, said some witnesses claimed to have seen two armed men on board a red TMX motorcycle traveling from Purok Mauswagon going towards Barangay (village) Cabuyoan.

Police said the suspects fired what could have been a grenade launcher at the Mabini Municipal Station around 7:25 p.m. Tuesday, damaging windows and the exterior part of the building’s second floor. No one was hurt.

Cascolan said fragments were recovered in the area, adding that the launcher may have been fired some 30 meters away from the station.

The alert level was raised in the area in anticipation of a firefight.
