Woman crushed to death in bizarre road accident in QC

MANILA, Philippines – A 20-year-old woman waiting for a ride was killed when she was crushed by a passenger jeepney that figured in an accident with a wayward cement mixer truck in Quezon City Tuesday, a city traffic investigator said.

Christian Barkarse of Quezon City traffic bureau-Sector 1 said the accident involving a cement mixer truck and a passenger jeepney occurred at the corner of Gregorio Araneta and Del Monte avenues in Quezon City around 8:30 a.m.

Barkarse said initial investigation showed that the cement mixer truck, driven by Reynald Guarte, lost its brakes and got stuck on a shallow digging by a water utility company.

The cement mixer truck tilted on its side and eventually fell on the passenger jeepney, which then crushed Marie Cherrie Inson who was standing beside the public utility vehicle.

Eight other people, including the driver of the passenger jeep, were injured.

“Nadamay si Inson at naipit after madaganan nung truck yung jeep,” Barkarse said.

A radio report said a tow truck and a crane were used to remove the mixer truck. Rescuers also used a hydraulic cutter before recovering the body of Inson.

Meanwhile, Barkarse said the other injured victims were taken to the East Avenue Medical Center, and St. Luke’s Medical Center.
