Thirty undernourished children aged six years and below from South Poblacion, San Fernando town, southern Cebu have been fed by Taiheiyo Cement Philippines Inc. (TCPI) since April 1.
TCPI personnel, assisted by the barangay health workers, will serve the children beneficiaries with rice, hi-protina and milk for 78 days everyday from Monday to Saturday, said project coordinator Vanessa Bongcawil.
The program hopes to bring all the 30 children to their supposed normal weight as they weigh less than what is expected of them at their age, Bongcawil said.
The company set up tent with six tables and 40 chairs to accommodate the mothers and the children beneficiaries during the feeding.
During the opening program on April 1, company physician Dr. Ildebrando Estella underscored the importance of proper nutrition, especially in the total well-being of a child and in one’s ability to learn and grow better. Members of the Community and General Affairs section of TCPI facilitate the feeding with the support of Human Resource supervisor Fae Soraya Miranda.
Barangay councilor Belinda Cosca, chairperson of Committee on Health, graced the opening and focused her message on the role of the parents of the undernourished children.
The feeding program is a joint project with Solid Earth Development Corp.
