Don’t eat endangered animals – Legarda

TEAM Pinoy senatorial candidate Loren Legarda will continue to fund the conservation efforts of whale sharks including the one’s in Oslob, southern town of Cebu.

Legarda also urged fellow countrymen to avoid eating endangered animals like sea turtles (pawikan) and Manta Rays.

“Kung merong conservation project for the protection of the whale sharks. I will support it just like the butanding in Sorsogon and Oslob,” Legarda said while pointing out that the Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau (PAWB) under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources have conservation efforts for endangered species.

She assured to continue in funding PAWB for the conservation of endangered species for them to be protected.

Legarda personally went to see the Whale Sharks in Oslob last year but it was raining and haven’t seen anybody swimming and feeding the mammals.

But Legarda doesn’t know, if swimming and feeding the whale sharks is harmful to the animals saying, “I will leave it to the conservation experts”.

Eating of endangered species on the other hand said Legarda is not a good practice since its already prohibited.

Legarda sees the need for the people to be educated what needs to be eaten and not to. She added that there’s a need for documentaries and other educational materials. /Jucell Marie P. Cuyos, Reporter
