MANILA, Philippines—The two policemen abducted by suspected members of the New People’s Army in Agusan del Sur escaped from their captors, the Philippine National Police said Friday.
PNP spokesman Chief Superintendent Generoso Cerbo Jr. said Police Officer 2 Allan Ronald Muñez made it to Loreto Municipal Police Station around 8:50 p.m. Thursday, ahead of his companion, Police Officer 1 Nemuel España.
España was found before dawn Friday, Cerbo said.
The duo managed to escape after Muñez got hold of an AK47 riffle, which he used to shoot two of their captors, he said.
Cerbo said Muñez and España got separated during their escape.
Muñez and España were seized by the communist rebels in Loreto, Agusan del Sur last Sunday.
