MANILA, Philippines—One was killed and two others were injured when a mixing site for fireworks products in Bulacan exploded and triggered a fire Thursday afternoon, a town fire marshal said.
Superintendent Nathaniel Villegas, Bocaue fire marshal, said the incident occurred at Ollie’s Fireworks manufacturing site in Barangay (village) Duhat in Bocaue, Bulacan around 1:40 p.m.
Authorities reported one fatality identified as laborer Larry Alano.
Alano’s co-workers Adrian Paul Gray and Ramilito Lunquinas were injured and rushed to the Mt. Carmel Hospital.
Villegas said the explosion started at the mixing area of the 50 sqm-site owned by one Veronica Cardenas.
“Raw materials and products ignited and exploded,” Villegas said in a text advisory, but added that further investigation was being conducted to determine what caused the explosion that led to a fire.
He said the fire reached first alarm before it was put out before 3 p.m.
