Soldier shot dead in Agusan del Sur

MANILA, Philippines—A soldier was killed after being shot by armed men in front of his son in Agusan del Sur on Wednesday, police said.

Corporal Bonifacio Piedad was eating lunch with his 15-year-old son when two still unidentified suspects attacked him in his home in Barangay (village) Magsaysay, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur around 1 p.m., said Superintendent Martin Gamba, Caraga police spokesman.

The suspects were armed with M16 riffles, said Gamba.

Piedad died on the spot after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds in his body, while the suspects fled after the incident.

Four fired cartridges from an M16 riffle were recovered at the crime scene, Gamba said, adding that follow up investigation was underway to identify the gunmen.
