Unheralded Aguan shocks Melligen in Summit Fight Night

JING Aguan of Kidapawan City shocked heavily favored John Rey Melligen via unanimous decision in their main event battle in the Summit Fight Night Amateur Boxing Series last Sunday at the Gaisano Country Mall carpark.

Melligen is the younger brother of world-ranked welterweight Mark Jason.

Meanwhile, JP Atieda of Bacolod City also scored a unanimous decision win against Ryan Cagatulla of the Philippine-Australia Boxing gym in their 59kg fight.

Camotes Island’s Mardy Muana routed Rolando Lingaw-lingaw of Bukidnon in the 57kg division with a 3-0 score while Juren Labordo of Bacolod City won over Ritchie Montealto of Consolacion Cebu.

Other winners were Christian Bacolod of Cabancalan High School who nipped Wendel Acharon of the University of Visayas (UV) in the 43kg class, Ferde San Roque over Jimboy Mayang of Bacolod City (43kg), Edu Rosal of Phil-Aust Boxing Gym against Cabancalan’s JK Malupay (42kg) and Raul Yu of Cabancalan High School who scored a Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) with 23 seconds left in the opening round against Mikee Durano of Phil-Aust Boxing Gym (33kg). /CORRESPONDENT DALE G.
