17 squads see action in Cekalco- Rama hoop

A TOTAL of 17 teams are seeing action in the Center Katipunan A. Lopez Christian Organization (CEKALCO)-Mayor Mike Rama Cup-2013 basketball tournament which opened last Sunday at the A. Lopez open court in Labangon.

The event was highlighted by the parade of all 17 competing teams and was preceded by an opening program attended by CEKALCO officers led by its president, Mr. Roland Sameon and Mayor Rama’s representative Donny Panugaling.

CEKALCO Vice President Nelson Solana awarded cash and trophies to the top teams and individuals of the previous season such as Team Golf (3rd Runner-Up); Delta (2nd Runner-Up); Charlie (1st Runner-Up) and Hotel (Champion). Individual awardees include Michael Kelvin Cinco (MVP and Bert Besties (Sportsmanship Award).

After the awarding rites, Mr. Donny Panugaling declared the tournament open.

FEATURED STORIES

In the Juniors Division, the Blue Ice Dragon trounced Pink Panthers, 73-66 with Filmar Cacharro scoring 24 points while Bimbo Purisima and Samboy Parcon added 18 points apiece. Dondon Batola led the Panthers with 19 points.

In the other game, the Ian Cacharro-led Black Label drubbed Maroon, 92-79. Joel Baiño and Cacharro led Black Label with 25 and 19 points, respectively, while Dong Romariz and Onyot Cocamas paced Maroons with 27 and 17 markers.
