DAVAO CITY, Philippines—At least 58 health advocates, who participated in a run here Wednesday morning, condemned the bomb attacks at the Boston marathon on Monday that left three people killed, including an 8-year-old boy, and over 170 others injured.
Ricardo Audan, president of Team Titans Davao, said his group had regular runs every Wednesday, but it decided to offer this run for the victims of the Boston marathon bombing.
“This is to sympathize and to condole with the victims,” Audan said.
Audan said his group started the run by offering a prayer for those who died and were injured in the bombing.
He added that the decision to transform the usual fun run into something that carried a political call was an expression of the members’ condemnation of the “barbaric act.”
Audan added that the group was organizing a bigger run in the city, which aside from calling for justice for the victims of the Boston bombing, would also call for world peace.
“Peace should reign,” he said.
More than 1,000 runners are expected to participate in the “Run for Boston, Run for Peace” on April 28.
