SWU to hold Founder’s Day, Siglakas 2011

THE entire Southwestern University community will celebrate its 104th Founder’s Day and Siglakas 2011 from Aug. 10 to Aug. 14.

Anchored on the theme “One SWU @ 65: Living academic excellence, loving Filipino identity, leading the world,” the celebration will begin with a parade from the Don Matias H. Aznar II grounds to the Aznar Memorial Coliseum where the opening ceremony will be held.

The program will open with the cadets from the Maritime Regiment. The new members of the SWU Cobras will then be introduced and the rest of the teams will be relaunched.

The cheerdance competition and the search for Ginoo at Binibining Siglakas 2011 will highlight the opening program.

FEATURED STORIES

In the afternoon, all individual and team sports will kick off.

The students’ intellectual prowess will be tested on the second day with the academic and literary contests.

Representatives from the different colleges will clash in oration, extemporaneous speaking, spelling bee, mathematics, science and computer quizzes. The singing duet competition will follow in the afternoon.

An institutional seminar for SWU deans and administrators with lawyer Lolita Lomanta will underscore Aug. 12 at the Administrative conference room at 10 a.m.

The 17th memorial lecture with lawyer Bruce Rivera will be held on Aug. 13. Rivera, a SWU alumnus, is now the prefect of Student Affairs of San Beda Alabang, School of Law. He will recount the life and contributions of Don Matias H. Aznar II.

The Student Night 2011 will rock the campus in the evening with the Vaiot Pageant (Rise of the Pink Army) and the Battle of the Bands final showdown.

The dancesport competition, field demonstration and the championship games are set on Aug. 14.

The closing and awarding ceremonies will announce the winners at 5 p.m.
