5.1-magnitude quake jolts Kidapawan City

DAVAO CITY, Philippines—A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck Kidapawan City in North Cotabato at 5:51 p.m. Wednesday.

There was no immediate report of injuries or damage to properties, according to Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Desiderio Cabanlit, officer-in-charge of Phivolcs in Southern Mindanao, said the quake’s epicenter was traced at 65 kilometers Southwest of Kidapawan.

The quake was felt in the cities of Davao, Cotabato and Cagayan de Oro.

The Philippines sits in the so called “pacific ring of fire” where tectonic or volcanic activity occurs frequently.
