AFTER FALLING short against the five-time UAAP champions Ateneo, the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras gun for their first win of the tournament when they tackle the University of the East (UE) Red Warriors today in the 7th Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at the Arena in San Juan City.

The Cobras, the reigning Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi), made a good account of themselves against the Blue Eagles during the opening weekend last Saturday but ultimately fell, 72-77.

With three African imports in tow in junior forward Justin Aboude, along with rookies Fabrice Siewe and Landry Sanjo, the Cobras gave the Eagles the fight of their lives before crumbling downt he stretch.

Veteran wingman Bon Guillena paced the Cobras in that game with 23 points while Siewe, a 6-foot-11 center, and Sanjo combined for 21 markers.

Standing in their way today will be the debuting Red Warriors, who will parade highly touted African import Charles Mammie along with prized rookie find Mario Bonleon Jr. But the catalyst of the team remains to be explosive guard Roi Sumang.

In other games today, the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers take on the San Beda Red Lions in the opener while the San Sebastian Stags battle Ateneo in the curtain-closer. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
