UNIVERSITY of San Carlos’s (USC) ace wood pusher Rhenzi Kyle Sevillano lorded last weekend’s Rapid Summer King Open Chess Tournament held at the SM City Cebu’s Deep Blue Chess Club.
The reigning national champion of the 20th Shell National Active Youth Chess finished the nine-round competition with 8.5 points to bag the P5,000 purse.
Ronald Ganzon claimed second place honors with 7.5 points while Merben Roque and Christian Fiel Yves settled for third and fourth, respectively.
Adrian Basil Basilgo was the top kiddie woodpusher after placing 21st followed by James Andrew Balbona and Jonas Dustin Bajo. Jelou Tabanao was the top lady player after finishing 22nd./CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
