Gunman shoots robbery, drug suspect

A man allegedly engaged in robbery and illegal drugs was gunned down in front of his son on Sunday afternoon in Quezon City.

Nelson Norumbaba, 34, of Barangay (village) Holy Spirit was shot while tending to his stall at the corner of Commonwealth Ave. and Samonte St.

Case investigator PO2 Julius Balbuena said the shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. Police learned from barangay authorities that the victim was suspected of involvement in illegal drugs and robberies.

A lone gunman suddenly walked up to the victim and fired at Norumbaba. The gunman then ran toward Samonte St. where he boarded a motorcycle and escaped.

Police recovered seven fired cartridges and two deformed slugs of .45-cal. bullets. The victim, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds including two in the head, was able to pick up his cell phone and then send text messages.

Balbuena said Norumbaba even managed to flag down a taxi driven by a certain Morales Chaves and asked to be taken to the hospital. The victim eventually died at the East Avenue Medical Center at 3:02 p.m.—Julie M. Aurelio
