Navotas gov’t puts 2 projects on hold
Bad news for young residents of Navotas City hoping to get circumcised or join the city’s youth programs.
The city government has suspended the implementation of its “Operation Tuli” (circumcision) and Summer Youth Programs because of next month’s elections.
Jayne Banayad, Navotas public information officer, confirmed the city government’s tweets last week on its official Twitter account that it was postponing the programs’ implementation in accordance with the Fair Elections Act.
“We wish to inform everyone that the implementation of the local programs of the city government of Navotas, namely Operation Tuli and the Summer Youth Program has been postponed until the [Commission on Election] has granted an exception,” the Twitter post said.
“We will inform everyone when the said programs will start. Thank you for your understanding,” it added.
The Omnibus Election Code explicitly prohibits the release of public funds for government programs during the election period, except for emergency projects, among others. Nathaniel R. Melican
