WHILE the regional Commission on Elections (Comelec) office is cracking down on illegal campaign materials, its provincial counterpart is delegating the task of going after campaign volunteers playing campaign jingles even at night.
Provincial Comelec officer Ferdinand Gujilde said it is the local government that’s directly responsible for shutting down and penalizing campaign volunteers who indiscriminately play campaign jingles even late in the night.
He said he received reports that some campaign volunteers have disturbed communities by playing their campaign jingles while roaming around their area on board vehicles.
“They can file a complaint for public disturbance. Any town and city must have an ordinance against disrupting the peace of a community. Videoke outlets are given until 10 p.m. to operate. And there are people who rest in the day,” Gujilde said.
Gujilde said these campaign volunteers should regulate the volume of their campaign jingles while roaming the area or even in their headquarters.
