THE 47-year-old man who was sent by his wife to jail for allegedly mauling her repeatedly was found dead in a detention cell of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG-7) in Gorordo Avenue, Cebu City.
The man was found in the cell’s comfort room with a tie wire looped around his neck. The other end of the wire was tied to a bar in the ceiling.
The wire was used as a clothesline.
The man was found past 7 a.m. yesterday in a sitting position on the toilet bowl by PO2 Ramil Reteurto.
Retuerto said he last saw the man alive past 2 a.m. yesterday. The policeman said he even advised the man to get a sleep.
The man was arrested by operatives of CIDG on Wednesday after his wife complained that he threatened to kill her.
The man’s wife went to the CIDG-7 office after learning about the incident. She said she did not expect that her husband would commit suicide.
The wife said she just wanted her husband to mend his ways when she asked the police to have him arrested.
“I just wanted to teach him a lesson,” the wife said in Cebuano.
The wife brought her husband food when she visited him 6 p.m Wednesday. There, the husband tried to convince her wife to release him and not to file charges against him.
The wife broke down when reporters asked her if she was the one who sought fthe man’s arrest.
The wife alleged that her husband threatened to kill her at dawn Wednesday.
The wife said she was sleeping when her husband arrived and kicked her in the thigh. The woman said she hid when the man took a gun and threatened to kill her.
