Woman killed, man wounded in Mindoro shooting

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro—A woman was killed while a man was wounded after one of two assailants on a motorcycle shot them in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro on Thursday morning, police said.

Senior Insp. Danilo Uy Driz Jr., San Jose police chief, said Peter Boy Damian was playing cards with his friends outside of a house in Leuterio corner Burgos Street in Barangay Pag-asa at around 10:35 a.m. Thursday when one of the two men onboard a motorcycle drove by and shot him.

Luzviminda Gaudier, who rushed out of her house when she heard the gunshots, was also shot by the gunmen.

Driz said Gaudier was shot in the chest while Damian was hit in the buttocks. Both were rushed to the San Jose District Hospital for treatment but Gaudier later died. Damian was declared in stable condition.

The two victims were unrelated and Damian just happened to be playing cards with friends outside of Gaudier’s house, Driz said.

Recovered from the scene were four empty shells and one live ammunition of caliber 45 pistol, said Driz.

Driz said they were still investigating the incident but said that the killing might be related to drugs.

Hesaid Damian was involved in a series of robbery, theft and drug cases in the town.
