Scores hurt in Mandaluyong road accident
MANILA, Philippines—Several people were wounded following a road accident involving a passenger jeepney in Mandaluyong City early Thursday, a Metropolitan Manila Development Authority officer said.
Laila Marcelo of MMDA-Metrobase said the incident transpired at the westbound lane along Connecticut Street in Barangay (village) Wack-Wack around 7:30 a.m.
She said initial reports reaching their office claimed that 14 people were wounded, but a radio report said that 24 passengers were hurt and were taken to San Juan Medical Hospital and Cardinal Santos Medical Center.
The radio report said the jeepney rammed a steel structure of MMDA before hitting a tree.
“Makikita mong malakas talaga yung impact kasi sirang sira yung harap na bahagi ng jeep. E supposedly matibay yon kasi bakal yon,” Sergeant Boyet Eugenio of Mandaluyong traffic bureau said in a separate interview.
He said, however, that no other information was available as investigators were still at the area.
