4 teams win opening matches in IBP cagefest
TEAMS Titans, Super Idols, YLAC and Eagles beat separate foes last Saturday at the start of the 10th Season of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP)-2013 basketball tournament at the Capitol Parish gym.
The Titans led by team owner Bads Del Prado nipped defending champion Pañeros, 53-52 on Art Flores’ jumpshot which also drew a foul from Jarred Cabilte. Flores calmly sank his two freethrows for the Titans’ one-point victory.
Lito Ortiz and Richard Bauzon led the Titans with 16 and 13 points, respectively, while Rowell Juban paced Pañeros with 16 markers.
In the other game, former grand slam winner Super Idols of Bong Pepito led from start to finish in routing Dissenters of Jonas Asis, 90-71. Fermin Pepito led the winners with 22 points while Bong Pepito, Eugene Sumampong and Bert Mañus combined for 39. Former UC Webmasters pointguard Kern Sesante paced Dissenters with 33 points.
Meanwhile, the Eagles drubbed Primos of Mayor Mike Rama, 61-46 with Marvin Miralles and Alvin Canta scoring 16 and 14 points, respectively. Mayor Mike Rama paced Primos with 12 markers.
In the last game, YLAC routed Pecandela Law Firm, 76-57 with Cris Ang and Benjo Santiago scoring 18 and 14, respectively. Sam Malazarte paced Pecandela with a game-high 36 points.
