Jana Pages made a spectacular comeback after clinching two titles in the Milo Junior Tennis Cup yesterday at the Cebu International Tennis Centre Inc. (CITCI) in Laray, Consolacion, Cebu.
Pages failed to bring home a title in last week’s 14th Tru-Flex National Age Group Tournament held in Lapu-Lapu, her first competition after a six-week layoff to rehabilitate a knee injury.
However, the 14-year-old netter showed none of the discomfort as she thrashed Nathalie Alipe, 6-1, 6-0, to win the girls 18 title.
Pages advanced to the final round with a 6-2, 6-1 dismissal of Elgy Dasian while Alipe earned a finals ticket with a 6-0, 6-0, demolition of Kristina Dicdican.
Pages also clinched the girls 16 title after routing Shyne Villareal, 6-1, 6-3.
The Cebuana netter grabbed a finals ticket after surviving Zethley Mae Alferez, 6-0, 6-4, in the semifinals while Villareal had to go through three sets against Beverly Enriquez, 6-4, 5-7, 10-8.
Pages is now under the tutelage of Swedish coach Tommy Fredriksen.
Enriguez kept her title chances alive by advancing to the semifinals of the girls 14, wherein she will be facing Patricia Tapdasan. The other semifinals match will see Villareal going up against Alferez.
In the girls 12 category, semifinalists are Leanne Transporte, who will go up against Cristina Marie Sampan, and Mary Nathalie Cobarde, who will be facing Jean Rica Banares.
Cagayan de Oro’s Dave Sebastian Mosqueda barged into the semifinals of the boys 18 with a 6-0, 6-0 annihilation of Flame Sotto. He will face the winner between Changmai Necesario and Christopher Encarnacion.
The other semifinal contest will see Jed Villarin facing Emmanuel Vacalares of Cagayan de Oro.
Vacalares also grabbed a semifinals ticket in the boys 16 with no sweat after Norman Enriquez defaulted in their match.
Semifinalists in the 14 boys are Heart Sotto versus Rey Dante Toledo and Gener Francis Lambayan versus Zodie Balundo.
In the boys 12 , seeing action in the semifinals are Venz Anton Alforque, who will go up against Jace Unto, and Gabriel Trazo, who will take on Cesar Kristopher Salimbangon.
Salimbangon and Trazo also advanced to the semifinals in the 10 Under unisex. Salimbangon will contest a finals ticket against Harland Hogan while Trazo will face Kenneth Tenepre.
