2 unidentified bodies found in wake of Zamboanga City fire

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines—Soon after authorities declared a fire out at past 5 p.m. Tuesday, two burnt bodies were recovered from one of the rooms of the Zamsulu Building here.

Superintendent Dominador Zabala Jr., the city fire marshal, said the bodies remained unidentified as of press time.

But Zabala said one of the occupants of the Zamsulu building, which caught fire Tuesday afternoon, had reported that two house helpers, both women, were missing.

Two other occupants survived the fire by leaping from the window of their second floor unit.

“They were brought to the hospital for medication, but I was informed they are now okay,” Zabala said.

The three-story Zamsulu building houses around six business establishments on its ground floor.

“The second floor serves as residence for all the Chua families and the third floor is the warehouse of some business establishments occupying the ground floor,” Zabala said.

Senior Superintendent Edwin de Ocampo, city police chief, said members of the police’s Crime Laboratory will try to determine the identities of the charred bodies.
