Incumbents told: Don’t forget your duties
Mandaue City election officer reminded incumbent officials seeking re-election not to forget to discharge their regular functions at City Hall.
“Candidates should not compromise their duties as incumbent government officials. said Anna Fleur Gujilde,” Mandaue City election officer.
Mayor Jonas Cortes assured that his function as mayor is not affected as he still reports for work even if he campaigns every day.
Cortes starts his house to house campaign from dawn to 8 a.m. He then reports to his office in City Hall to attend to his duties as mayor.
“My public duty as mayor of Mandaue cannot be stopped because it is campaign period,” Cortes said in Cebuano.
The Commission on Election (Comelec) meanwhile will send notices to candidates whose posters are placed improperly in common poster areas this week.
Article continues after this advertisementUpon receipt of the letters, Gujilde revealed that candidates are given three days to remove the campaign materials or else their office will be the ones to remove it and send a report to the Comelec office in Manila. Posting illegal campaign materials is ground for the candidate’s disqualification.
Article continues after this advertisementThe Comelec also called on candidates not to place their campagin materials on fences and walls of designated poster areas like barangay halls.
Instead candidates should put up their own frames where they can mount their campaign materials.
