Two days campaign notice needed for Mandaue market
CANDIDATES wishing to hold a meet-and-greet or a rally in Mandaue City’s public market should notify management two days in advance, market chief Musoline Sulliva said yesterday.
Suliva said candidates are welcome to campaign in the new market anytime.
But if they are not informed two days before their activity, he said they may not be given assistance.
“It would be best if the candidates will send a letter of intent to the mayor’s office at least two days earlier,” Suliva said.
He said there was one candidate that told them about a campaign sortie in the market hours before it was held.
Candidates who want to use the market’s activity center should pay P600 to the City Treasurer’s Office, Suliva said.
He said they expect lots of local and national candidates to visit the public market to campaign.
Senatorial candidate Loren Legarda and independent vice-gubernatorial candidate Glenn Soco were among those who visited the new Mandaue public market.
Suliva said they can’t stop the candidates from campaigning in the market so long as their office is informed.
But he said he will still consult the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on the legality of placing campaign materials on market stalls. Correspondent Jucell Marie P. Cuyos
Consolacion govt aiming for cityhood status
Consolacion Mayor Theresa Alegado said their municipality will continue to work with stakeholders in Metro Cebu to elevateto city status.
“We are very lucky to be part of it,” Alegado said, referring to the Mega Cebu project that seeks to find common solutions to problems facing Metro Cebu like traffic congestion, water sustainability and aging drainage systems.
Alegado said she attends meetings for Mega Cebu projects.
“I dream that Mega Cebu will become like Metropolitan Manila or a little Singapore.
