Dr. Fe del Mundo to be honored in state necrological rites

The wake for renowned pediatrician Dr. Fe del Mundo is being held at the Dr. Fe del Mundo Medical Center Memorial Hall, 11 Banawe St., Quezon City, until Aug. 9. On Aug. 10, her remains will be transferred to the Sto. Domingo Church at 1 p.m. where the funeral Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m.

Del Mundo  died on Aug. 6 at the age of 99.

She was a recipient of a Ramon Magsaysay Award, Asia’s version of the Nobel Prize. She was also awarded the Grand Collar of the Order of the Golden Heart, putting her among the ranks of Hellen Keller and Filipino comedian Dolphy who were also recipients.

Del Mundo also received the Elizabeth Blackwell Award for Outstanding Service to Mankind.

On Aug. 11, she will be honored as a National Scientist in state necrological services at the Department of Science and Technology, General Santos Avenue, Bicutan, Taguig City, at 8 a.m. Interment will follow at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig.
